The Teeth Whitening Procedure
Teeth whitening is one of the most requested cosmetic procedures in dentistry today. It is also a simple cosmetic procedure to administer when done correctly. Doing it correctly means using a proper whitening agent (that is, a good strength hydrogen peroxide gel) and an appropriate whitening accelerator.
At Smiling Bright our whitening formulas are continually evaluated and updated to insure that you achieve your best possible smile. All of our formulas consist of only hydrogen peroxide, the only ingredient that is proven to whiten teeth. We compliment our formulas with the latest and safest blue light whitening technology to treat our clients.
What to expect at your appointment:
The process is simple. When you come into our office for the first time you will fill out a registration form and then you are ready to begin. You are given a private room and seated in a comfortable chair. You will be guided through the entire treatment and supervised by one of our trained technicians.
There are two levels of service you can choose from for our in office treatment:
- Our introductory level uses a silicone tray that is preloaded with our hydrogen peroxide based whitening formula. You will apply Vitamin E to your gums and lips to create a barrier that prevents the whitening gel from coming in contact with your lips or gums. You then insert the preloaded tray into your mouth in a comfortable position. A professionally trained technician will then align our professional strength L.E.D. light to your tray to begin the whitening process.
- Our Pro Select and Pro Flash services use higher strength hydrogen peroxide formulas than the formula used in our introductory tray service. The differentiating factor in the process for these services is the whitening gel is applied directly to the teeth allowing a more exact application of the gel and resulting in a more even tone of whitening across your entire smile. The professional strength L.E.D. light is then aligned directly at your teeth.
For all of our treatments you will use a cheek retractor that is inserted into your mouth to expose more of your smile to the whitening process. We then align the blue light directly at your smile. The purpose of the blue light is to active the whitening gel, and boost the release of hydroxyl radicals, this results in removal of deep stains that cannot be removed by regular brushing of the teeth or over the counter whitening products.
If you are doing a 30-minute session you can expect to spend about 45 minutes at our office to complete the treatment. If you are doing a 60-minute session you will get a break after 30 minutes to rinse and re-apply fresh gel before sitting for the second 30 minutes of your hour-long session. For a 60-minute session you can expect to spend about 1.5 hours to complete the treatment.
In today’s world most of us find it a challenge to sit still for even 30 minutes at a time. During the whitening process you do need to relax your head back and be relatively still so what you can do while teeth whitening is limited. Our recommendation is to bring your ear-buds and music to make your time more enjoyable.
